Everyone is different, and that's why there are hundreds of supplements. DHEA worked 25 years ago for me, I used to use it in my 20's for lifting weights. It worked, and I took it for several years every day. I stopped taking it when I got 3 jobs and no time to work out, and didn't notice any side effects from stopping it. It's almost 30 years later, and I am turning 50. I started taking this again a few months ago, since I've been hitting the gym for a good 6 months again for the first time in years. Within a week there was no doubt in my mind that this helps me even more now that I am 50. As odd as it is to say, it promotes "swelling". In the health news all you hear about these days is NSAIDS - anti-inflammatory this or that pill, as a way to reduce swelling, inflammation, and the like. For me it works the opposite way - I retain water. My eyes are a little puffy in the morning taking DHEA. So why take it? I never took steroids, but what they say is that you retain a lot of water (a joke about someone taking roids cuts themselves shaving and they bleed water first before blood). DHEA claims to be a precursor to testosterone, and by giving your body all it needs as a precursor, it will then in turn be able to create just the right amount of testosterone to suit your exercise needs. This seems to fit here. For whatever reason, my muscles feel more "pumped" (a term usually only felt by those who body-build, where your muscle feels like a dense rock when squeezed, but it can't happen until you've developed the muscle for a long time and the muslce has a certain amount of size/densitity). Taking DHEA I still get the muscle soarness when I go all out, but in between workouts the muscles start to feel stronger and a MUCH better PUMP. Without DHEA, and, at a time when I was taking NSAIDs for another health issue, workouts were a totally different experience, as if you never really felt growth and strength from resistance training, even though I knew how to work out correctly. I was working out without DHEA for 6 months, and noticed a big undisputable jump in my gains - NOT a placebo effect!So for me, I am convinced DHEA works, and happens to be one of the cheapest supplements out there, so I recommend it is worth a try. I am SURE it won't work for everyone, but I personally have had results such that now at age 50, and going to the gym again, I will take these as long as I am staying in shape, or until I feel they no longer help.
Like I said, for me, they definitely "swell" the body a little bit, and I think that helps muscles, but might be bad if you have other diseases or joint problems. But these are on my BUY list for the forseeable future.
